Choosing The Right Keywords

Keywords Are Important For Local SEO

Choosing the right keywords for your website content to target should begin when you’re designing the site. Keyword research is one of the foundations of good Search Engine Optimization, and planning your content accordingly will save you plenty of headaches when it comes to SEO.

There are many tools available for finding keywords. Some are free, and some need to be purchased. If you’re attempting to optimize your own website, the Google Keyword planner is probably where you’ll start. It can give you plenty of good information, but can also be inaccurate with its reporting.

It is, however, a very good rough guide and is very simple to learn. You can be discovering keywords in just a few minutes after logging in.

If you’re employing someone to do SEO on your website, he or she will most definitely ask you about keywords. Coming to a decision together with your optimization company is the most ideal way to make sure you’re targeting words and phrases that people will use to find you on the web.

Some keywords are called exploratory or research keywords. An example of one of these would be “what is tinnitus”. When someone types this phrase into a search engine, we can safely assume they are looking for more information about the condition called tinnitus. They may have tinnitus themselves or are just curious about the condition after hearing the word on the evening news.

The reason why isn’t important. What’s important to understand is that these searchers are about as far away from a buying decision as they can be.

Ideally what we’d want to target is a person who might type in something like “How can I cure my tinnitus” or “help for my tinnitus”. As you can guess from these phrases, the searchers in this case are much closer to a buying decision than the previous example.

So bear this in mind when choosing your keywords; pick phrases that are closing to the end of the buying cycle, not at the beginning.

Another great way to decide on which words to target is to put yourself in the shoes of your typical customer.  Ask yourself what they might be searching for when they’re looking for your products or services.

Keyword research is vitally important to your SEO campaign. Don’t gloss over this part. And if you’ve already hired someone to do your website optimization, make sure you become a partner with them and brainstorm keywords together.

After all, you know your business much better than they do.
